Gaiole in Chianti
Tuscany, Italy
I was hired by Rome based architect Domenico Minchilli to work with his studio on this renovation in Tuscany. Our German clients had owned the house since the ‘80s but rarely spent time there. The house was dark and dated because of the previous owner’s renovations. The adult children were living in three different countries and they wanted a place where the entire family, including young grandchildren, could come together.
Tuscany has some of the strictest building restrictions in Italy. It’s one reason the area is so beautiful but it makes renovating a challenge. We found creative solutions to make the house feel larger and brighter even though we couldn’t change the footprint.
The children had very different styles from their mom but in the end we were able to create a home that they all loved. They held a family wedding here shortly after the renovations.
